Can you believe it’s already August? It’s okay though, because that means my favorite season is almost here: FALL!! (The first day of Fall in the Northern Hemisphere this year is September 22 at 5:18 p.m.) In preparation for this crisp, bright, leafy, rainy, glorious time of year, I created an Autumn Essentials list, chockablock full of products (clocks, silverwear, apparel, art, etc.) to help get you in the spirit. In honor of Halloween, the list currently contains 31 items, but I’m sure there will be more as the autumn months get closer, so keep checking back! Woo hoo! Creepy kids’ movie, “Coraline” is finally on DVD and I’m totes excited! I’m actually curious to see if I’ll enjoy the flick half as much on a little screen. I’m sure I will. The super-cool DVD on my Coraline DVD Release and All Things Coraline guide includes the 3-D version of the movie, so that should add to my enjoyment immensely. Don’t worry, I’ve included the 3-D glasses for purchase as well.

“Do you recycle or do you destroy the Earth?” A friend once asked me that question, and now I’m asking you the same. Earth Day is in about two weeks. It will be here before you know it, people. And I think it’s pretty cool to Recycle, Reduce and Reuse every day, not just on the one day out of the year that is dedicated to Mother Earth.

It’s also the fashionable thing now to show off your recycling skills, so that others take the hint and do the same. (Lots of people still don’t recycle, even though you can recycle almost anything!) Ikea’s selling point on its products is functionality. Everyone turns to Ikea to find affordable items that will save on storage space, right? Tubs for under the bed, organizers for the closet, boxes, bags, bookcases, the list goes on. Having a small bedroom full of lots of junk, I can appreciate a good space-saver in my life. Ikea’s products, however, lack character and appeal to me. Everything is just so sterile and plastic-y.

Just for fun, I decided to put myself to the test to see if I could find household items and decor that I would use in my own room that weren’t so darn “Ikea”-ish. I was born in January. I’m a Winter baby. So naturally, I look forward to this season all year long. Plus, who doesn’t love the holidays? There’s so much celebrating going on this time of year, but sometimes the primping and prepping is what I love most about it. Even though I always complain of the anticipated extra-dry skin and dull hair that comes with the season’s frost, I enjoy pampering and protecting my skin and hair with beauty products that have extra moisturizers, color tints, and SPF that keep me glowing through the new year.

Speaking of glowing, I won’t lie; when it comes to wintertime makeup, I load up on as much glitter, shimmer, and sparkle as I possibly can. Along with reflectively shiny eye shadows, bronzers, and blushes reminiscent of holiday tinsel, dark nail polish and spicy perfumes are essentials that define “Winter beauty” in my mind. I don’t go a day without my Urban Decay Urban Ammo eye palatte and a spritz of my current signature scent, Burberry’s The Beat.
