Star Trek Fashion Inspiration: Nyota Uhura

I’m not going to lie- the most I’ve ever seen of anything Star Trek is the preview for the 2009 version that came on before the movie I actually paid to go see. Just because I’m not a Trekkie, however, does not mean I don’t appreciate futuristic fashion! “Star Trek” premiered on the 8th of this month and Zoe Saldana looks like she rocked the role of Nyota Uhura (cute dress!). I created a Dress Like Nyota Uhura buyer’s guide with literal and non-literal versions of her style to inspire your everyday look or your Halloween costume (there’s an actual Nyota costume in the guide, if that’s what you’re in the market for). Have fun!

Shown: Charm Straight by TressAllure Hairpieces, Sterling Silver 9×17mm White FW Pearl Teardrop Earrings, and Urban Renewal Mixed Strip Knit Tunic.

Rasta Time!

SHOP RASTA GEAR NOW!

Springtime symbolizes many things: birth, re-birth, new beginnings, growth, romance, etc., but this year, for me, spring simply stands for the season before summer. And with summer, comes reggae, which has been all I’ve been listening to for the past several weeks. I have found so many cute rasta-colored accessories and clothing, which I have included in my Rasta Wear for Girl’s buyer’s guide.

Once you see how cute these things are (um, a.k.a. the Rasta Bow Hair Clips!), I guarantee you’ll be switching your iPod to Legend quicker than you can say “I shot the sheriff.” Make sure you check out all the products I hand-picked for the guide - there’s definitely more than one page’s worth of rastafari-approved gear up on there!

The Simple Hair Necessities

After my last bad break-up, I decided that since I would have to change my mind-set and lifestyle back to “single girl” mode, I would also need to change my bedroom décor, wardrobe, city of residence, and hair. The hair is what changed my swag the most. I dyed it black and chopped it to a Posh Spice bob a.k.a. “The Pob.” I have never received more ego-boosting compliments from guys and girls alike in my entire life! (Thank you, Jonathan!) I even went SHORTER and asymmetrical upon returning to the salon the following month.

Of course, I had to figure out which earrings, clothes, and accessories harmonized with my new chic, bad-ass haircut. No longer able to tie my hair up in any way, I cultivated a profound new appreciation for hair accessories. Clips, ribbons, barrettes, headbands, scarves. Whatever kept the hair out of my eyes while adding a cutsey, girly, or glam touch to my otherwise pretty hardcore look, I worshipped. It’s fun to play with different hair styles, so if you’re considering going short, don’t forget to stock up on some Cute Barrettes and Hot Headbands first!

Winter is Your Friend

I was born in January. I’m a Winter baby. So naturally, I look forward to this season all year long. Plus, who doesn’t love the holidays? There’s so much celebrating going on this time of year, but sometimes the primping and prepping is what I love most about it. Even though I always complain of the anticipated extra-dry skin and dull hair that comes with the season’s frost, I enjoy pampering and protecting my skin and hair with beauty products that have extra moisturizers, color tints, and SPF that keep me glowing through the new year.

Speaking of glowing, I won’t lie; when it comes to wintertime makeup, I load up on as much glitter, shimmer, and sparkle as I possibly can. Along with reflectively shiny eye shadows, bronzers, and blushes reminiscent of holiday tinsel, dark nail polish and spicy perfumes are essentials that define “Winter beauty” in my mind. I don’t go a day without my Urban Decay Urban Ammo eye palatte and a spritz of my current signature scent, Burberry’s The Beat. Check out some of the other products I’ve dubbed as “Winter Beauty Must-Haves” on my Kazowie buyer’s guide list: Winter Beauty Must Haves
