Star Trek Fashion Inspiration: Nyota Uhura

I’m not going to lie- the most I’ve ever seen of anything Star Trek is the preview for the 2009 version that came on before the movie I actually paid to go see. Just because I’m not a Trekkie, however, does not mean I don’t appreciate futuristic fashion! “Star Trek” premiered on the 8th of this month and Zoe Saldana looks like she rocked the role of Nyota Uhura (cute dress!). I created a Dress Like Nyota Uhura buyer’s guide with literal and non-literal versions of her style to inspire your everyday look or your Halloween costume (there’s an actual Nyota costume in the guide, if that’s what you’re in the market for). Have fun!

Shown: Charm Straight by TressAllure Hairpieces, Sterling Silver 9×17mm White FW Pearl Teardrop Earrings, and Urban Renewal Mixed Strip Knit Tunic.

UP

Disney-Pixar’s Up is less than a month away from premiering (May 29th in Disney Digital 3-D)! If you liked Monster’s Inc., brace yourself: Up is directed by the same guy, Pete Docter. I have a feeling it’s going to be absolutely hilarious and completely darling. How could it not be? Duh, I’m obsessed with the characters already and, as you know, I’m always looking for an excuse to dress up. If you’re like me and/or you’re just super-excited for a new Pixar movie, you should check out my Dress Like Carl Fredricksen from Disney-Pixar’s UP shopping guide. This outfit’s great for opening night at the movies, Halloween, a Pixar theme party, or just for fun. Obviously, the main character is MALE, but the products in my guide are all women’s apparel and accessories (i.e. a pre-tied bow tie). It’s really cute, you’ll see.

See my other “Dress Like” guides at the links below. There’s definitely going to be more of these in the future! If you have any ideas for a fun character dress-up, let me know and I’ll shop for you!

Pinocchio Party: Dress Like the Disney Cutie

Pinocchio has got to be the cutest Disney character ever created. Seventy years ago, Pinoc, Geppetto, Jiminy, and the rest of the endearing movie characters made their debut in Walt Disney’s second animated feature, Pinocchio (after Snow White’s debut in 1937). The upcoming March 10th release of the 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition DVD inspired me to think of a new party theme idea. Decorate your space like Geppetto’s puppet shop with Italian food and red apples, cuckoo clocks, magical Blue Fairy glitter, and plastic Pinoc noses and key chains for everyone! (Or take it to Pleasure Island with amusement park décor, Pin the Tail on the Donkey games, cotton candy, casino games, and candy cigars.)

Either way, if the hostess with the mostess decides to dress the part of darling Pinocchio, she can’t forget a black vest, blue bow tie, and red shorts! And of course, the movie must be playing all night on repeat! Check out my Pinocchio Style Guide on Kazowie.com for more fashion and party ideas!

Halloween Party

Some of my favorite memories from childhood are from the Halloween parties our family friends threw each year. Even now, I’m constantly looking for any excuse to dress up, any reason to change my appearance in a fun, extreme way. I’ve been told that I’d always been into the scary/spooky/creepy as a child, and I think it was those Halloween parties that fostered this preference for the eerie holiday and my adoration of the Fall season (Thanksgiving is also partly responsible for this Fall Fondness. Hello, pumpkin pie!). As I entered college and my early twenties, I discovered the typical college girl’s definition of Halloween night. I must unfortunately admit that I got caught up in the cutesy, too-tight, and way too-short costumes. They’re fun and cute.

But honestly, how often do you get to paint your face like a bloody skeleton? Maybe it’s the horror-lover inside of me, but I always attempt to transform those girly costumes into something ghoulish, gory, or gothic. And I will still always prefer and appreciate the Halloween celebrations that demonstrate a genuine effort to transform the party place into something resembling a haunted house. If you’re throwing a Halloween party this year, start planning early, so that you don’t overlook the small details, as those are the most important ones. I found some cool Halloween decorations that you can check out on my Kazowie Halloween Party Guide to get ideas for your own spooky celebration. Happy haunting!
