UP

Disney-Pixar’s Up is less than a month away from premiering (May 29th in Disney Digital 3-D)! If you liked Monster’s Inc., brace yourself: Up is directed by the same guy, Pete Docter. I have a feeling it’s going to be absolutely hilarious and completely darling. How could it not be? Duh, I’m obsessed with the characters already and, as you know, I’m always looking for an excuse to dress up. If you’re like me and/or you’re just super-excited for a new Pixar movie, you should check out my Dress Like Carl Fredricksen from Disney-Pixar’s UP shopping guide. This outfit’s great for opening night at the movies, Halloween, a Pixar theme party, or just for fun. Obviously, the main character is MALE, but the products in my guide are all women’s apparel and accessories (i.e. a pre-tied bow tie). It’s really cute, you’ll see.

See my other “Dress Like” guides at the links below. There’s definitely going to be more of these in the future! If you have any ideas for a fun character dress-up, let me know and I’ll shop for you!

Classy-Cute Style to Copy!

A friend and I were recently discussing what types of outfits are worn by interviewees for a big time fashion magazine job in New York and how these clothes compare to “appropriate” interview attire on the West Coast (a.k.a. the Best Coast). The Miu Miu outfit Jessica Alba wore to the premiere of Sugar yesterday reminded me of office attire you could rock after you land the job (the HR manager might not appreciate the mini skirt, even with dark tights).  See Dress Like Jessica Alba at the Sugar Premiere to see my Alba Outfit look-alike choices, including where to buy the actual Miu Miu Suede Peep Toe Pumps and an exact CZ replica of J. Albs’ engagement ring for cheap!)

The pieces of this look translate to an overall classic appearance with a twist of modern trends (i.e. printed blouse, skinny belt). The end result is an outfit that looks great at any occasion, by day or by night. Very cute.

Bent on Belts!

I don’t care if they’re so 2008, I’m still obsessed with high waist belts! These belts, worn not through your belt-loops, but high up on your waist, are not only stylin’ in a big way, they’re ultra-figure flattering. I love wearing thick belts because they instantly create the hourglass figure that nature never bestowed upon me. These belts cinch in baggy tops, sweaters, and dresses and balance out wide hips by drawing attention upward.

Girls with short torsos, like me, should stick to medium/skinny width belts, so we don’t look like Stumpy, the 8th dwarf. One of my favorite high waist belts is black, crocheted, and elastic-y with a brown leather ends and a metal buckle from Urban Outfitters. The stretchiness ensures that the belt will never be so tight as to impair my breathing, even on my Big Bertha bloat days, and the dual colors make my belt wearable with any shoes, be they black or brown! Clutch.
