Serious Shoes

I can’t get enough shoes. If you’ve read any of my posts over the past year, you probably know this-  75% of my posts are about shoes. We had to start a rule in the house that entails the removal of one pair of shoes if another is to enter the household. It’s a rough life.

I’m completely smitten over the crazy new shoes that are appearing on the runway as well as in the streets. The search for the best shoe this season ends at this Jeffrey Campbell Unicorn Princess Shoe: Ruffles.  Unicorn Heel. Gold. Amazing.

Another one at the top of my list is the Industry Leather Wedge, available in teal at Modcloth.com and beige at 80’s Purple.

And of course, not to be left out are the following (from left to right): Marc Jacobs’ Salmon Velvet, Proenza Schouler Peep-Toe Heel, The Casadei Suede Slingback with Horn Heel,  and the Tapeet by Vicini. Also amazing.

Cork Bottom Shoes

Cork bottom sandals are my new favorite look for spring. They are super versatile and can be worn for casual occasions with jeans as well as with dresses for fancier outings. I especially LOVE cork bottom wedges like you see here:

Clockwise from left to right: Stuart Weitzman Attire Wedge, Nigel by Michael Kors, Bette Buff on Cork by Kork-Ease, McGraw Sling by Michael Kors, Enzo Angiolini Gild Sandal.

Good News for Plaid Lovers!!!

Plaid is not for everyone (plaid reminds me of my dad’s work shirts) but I love how many different kinds of plaid there are: tartan, gingham, argyle, madras. And depending on what colors and material, plaid pieces can have a completely different look and feel from one another. There is definitely a huge difference between a light, summery cotton plaid and a heavy wool plaid. I don’t think that plaid ever technically goes out of style, but it happens to be super hot at the moment and I’m pretty sure that its here to stay well into the fall.

Jump start your summer and pick up some TOMS Shoes* in a plethora of plaid slip-ons.

From Modcloth.com, comes a pretty little sleeveless number, The Rise Over Run Top and Urban Outfitters has quite a few cute summery pieces, including the Plaid Smocked Tube Top,  the Plaid Shirt Tie  Tunic and the Chambray and Plaid Tube Dress. Or from 80’s Purple, you can grab the sassy Roberta Oaks Georgie Dress. Check out some more hot Summer Plaid

*TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair purchased. Get some!

Where the Wild Things Are!!!

In case you didn’t already know, Spike Jonze and writer Dave Eggers, have created a movie based on the classic book, Where the Wild Things Are.  One my favorites when I was little; the illustrations were so perfectly dark and creepy and I’m interested to see how it translates into the movie.

I found the cutest pic that I had to share of a Max costume that someone made on Etsy.  I would snatch up this one up if I knew someone that could wear it!

I also found some really cute merch:  Where The Wild Things Are Wrist ClutchOne of a Kind Buttons, and Handmade Recycled Glass Pendant.  Check out more good stuff to get you excited for the movie in my Where The Wild Things Are buyer’s guide.

Fight Like a Girl T-Shirt

Marc Jacobs and Bloomingdales have teamed up to offer this super cute t-shirt that features MJ’s signature character, Miss Marc, and the saying “Fight like a girl…to beat breast cancer”. 50% of sales go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and they’re going to stop selling them in April (if they don’t run out first!) Check out the list, Girly Tops, for some other cute finds.

Western Inspired Boots

I’ve been noticing a lot of girls wearing western-style boots lately. At first I was anti-western, but I’m sorta warming up to the idea and I think that it can be a good look if not overdone. Example: Everything else that you are wearing with your cowboy/western inspired boots cannot have any western flair to them at all; basically, your outfit needs to be the opposite of western (unless you’re going for that “I’m from the South” look)

Whichever Olsen twin this is has the right idea (left), where as, Kate Bosworth has the wrong idea:

The lace and frilly sleeves is a little too cowboy for me. But, on the other hand, she’s pretty awesome, so she can kinda do what she wants (and pull it off).

Being from no where near the South, I know that people have been wearing them for years, regardless of fashion. In my research to see what people are saying about boots, I came across The Boot Blog from Allen’s Boots and found this:

“If you’re in town for SXSW, you may have noticed more than a few people wearing cowboy boots. Besides being hugely popular in Texas, cowboy boots are very much in style right now, being worn by everyone from hipsters to celebs to top music industry execs. Seems like people have caught on to how awesome cowboy boots are — both in style and function.”

The original boot maker businesses like Stetson, Justin and Lucchese are pretty psyched right now. Check out a huge selection of updated and original cowboy boots at Fabulous Western-Inspired Boots.

Green!!

Inspired by St. Patrick’s Day and the arrival of Spring and the fact that it’s hip to Go Green, I thought I’d focus on things green and grassy. Grass can be used in a household just like a plant to liven up a room. Take, for example, the Daisy Grass Mats - what a great way to freshen up a tabletop, bookshelf or coffee table- the flowers are removable! Embellish your wall with the über modern Piece of Grass Sod Photographic Print or Deer Standing in Grass Print- it comes on recycled card stock with water-based ink. For the bathroom, the Grassy Green Toothbrush Holder cleverly designed to hold almost anything, but really cute for the toothbrush/toothpaste combo.

For outside the home, wear the unique  Grassy Meadow Glam Dress or carry the travel size Grass Umbrella, recently featured in High School Musical.  Just be sure not to mix them on the same day!! Check out some other green products The Grass is Always Greener

What Will Make it Past the Runway?

Fashion week, 2009 has come to an end and among all of the fabulous people, red carpets and glamour, there was a lot to be seen- including Barbie’s First Ever Runway Show! But as we all know, not everything actually makes it past the runway. I’ve created a compilation of what I think will actually show up on real people this fall. I’ll be curious to see which of my predictions make it this fall.

Feathers-Not everyone is going to be wearing the full-on pheasant feather hat, but there will be a whole lot of feathery and bird inspired fashion happening.  I’m thinking lots of feather headbands.

+

Chunky Jewelry paired with more feminine pieces.

+

High-Waisted Skirts have slowly been making their way back into fashion for the past couple of seasons. I’m pretty sure this look is going to fall into most girls’ closets by September.

+

Streamlined Cut Out shapes are going to be all over the place in tops, pants, dresses. You name it.

+

Metallics are going to be huge in purses, shoes and accent colors.  I noticed that almost every designer had a shiny metallic dress or evening gown.  Which makes sense because historically, metallics have been a staple in hard times. We still want to shine.

+

Jeans Tucked into Boots- This is one of my favorite looks that was all over the runway. This look is here to stay for a long, long time.

+

Asymmetric Hems The asymmetric hem kind of comes and goes and comes and goes. They reminds me of my favorite skirt from the 80’s made by UNITS.  The hem line started at mid-thigh on one side and then was bias-cut all the way to mid-calf.  It was really cool at the time.

An Amazing Etsy Fashion Designer

I cannot say enough good things about Etsy; except maybe that it has almost TOO much stuff.  You can easily get overwhelmed and lost among the amazing one-of-a-kind finds. Etsy has always been my go-to spot for all things handmade. Some of my favorite things in my closet I found on Etsy years ago. Over the years the magnitude of talent for fashion has grown.

If you are looking for some amazing up and coming designers, you will for sure find them on Etsy. One of my favorites, Supayana, is a designer based out of Montreal.  She was recently featured in Daily Candy, Bust Magazine and the New York Daily News.  She creates feminine and flirty pieces made mostly from recycled materials. She also manages to find some wonderful vintage designs and adds a little something of her own to them or leaves them as they are. My favorite pieces of hers are various versions of the reconstructed man’s shirt. Some of my other favorites are the Silk Flapper shirt and the Grey and Green Ruffle top.

Check out the rest of Supayana’s amazing pieces and some other great Etsy Fashion Designers.
