Bobbi Blu Spree!

Bobbi Blu makes the most comfortable and adorable shoes I’ve ever seen or worn. I own one pair, but might have to invest in another! I can’t get over the sale prices I found for my Girly Bobbi Blu shopper’s guide! The shoes may not be the spankin’ new Fall ‘09’s, but they still look hot to me! They’re cute, feminine, and classic enough to transcend the seasons, yet they’re somehow still unique and fresh.

From left: Bobbi Blu Alissa Camel High Heels, Bobbi Blu Rosilynn, Bobbi Blu Dallan, and Bobbi Blu Edith.

Though the colors are mostly muted (which match everything!), they pop because of the unique designs, patterns, fabrics, and accents used by Bobbi Blu. Think patent, satin, floral, ruffles, scallops, buttons, and everything girly and wonderful! Plus, I’m always sold on any shoes with padded soles, especially pumps! Cute and comfy? HAAAAY!!

♪ ♪ Wedding Shoes ♪ ♪

I’m completely obsessed with shoes of all kinds and am ECSTATIC  that I get to pick out two pairs of shoes for my wedding; one pair of flats and one pair of heels. Originally, I was just going to wear a pair of heels, and my fiancé reminded me that I may not want to wear heels for the entire reception- seeing as how there will be TONS of dancing;-)

My ultimate goal is to find two pairs that I could maybe, possibly, one day want to wear again. Which basically means that I don’t want a pair of dyables. The flats don’t matter quite as much as the heels, because my dress will probably cover them, so a simple pair of ballet flats will work. I know that I’ll have to wait until I have my dress finished to pick out shoes, but I’ve got a good list going of both heels and flats for when I’m ready to make the big decision. I’m really going for a vintage feel for the wedding and I love the idea of having gold, silver, or off-white shoes (my dress is going to be closer to off-white than pure white).

You’re SO Anne Frank!

While looking into the perforated boots trend this morning, I came across a pair of Free People Oxford Ankle Boots, which inspired me to create the Anne Frank 2009 and Anne Frank Shoes shopper’s guides.

Wartime fashion, including makeup, hair, and jewelry, has always intrigued me. The boxy, yet flowy collared knee-length dresses with feminine hourglass cuts are flattering to all body types. They have a lasting elegance that combines style and practicality. The overall style and fabrics of the early 1940’s were simple, due to shortages from the war, but the women always found a way to spice up their looks with dark matte lips and elaborate curls, (even if their ringlets were peeking out from under a hat or Rosie the Riveter headscarf).

Today, I’ve created some Mod-Vint (modern-meets-vintage) “Anne Frank” looks that merge early 40’s fashion influences with 2009 flair. The look is formal and feminine, yet comfortable. Spritz on some Chanel no 5 or l’Air du Temps and you’re good to go: modern vintage is SO Anne Frank!

TARINA TARANTINOOO!

Tarina Tarantino has random taste! But so do most people. That’s why I really enjoy the designer’s jewelry line. She’s got a piece of jewelry to fit your every mood. If you’re feeling quirky, try the Labbit Hoop Earrings (part of the Kidrobot by Tarina Tarantino Collection). If you’re feeling romantic, bust out the Baroque Skull Multibead Necklace (as worn by Pink on the cover of Seventeen mag). If you’re feeling gangsta, throw on the Heart and Crystal ‘Things That Hurt’ Drop Earrings (also part of the Kidrobot Collection). Everything’s different, but it’s all girly, quirky, and fun! Totes cute! Check out my Necklaces and Earrings buyer’s guides, chockablockfull of my fave Tarina picks!

Word to the wise: It seems as if most of the Tarina pieces look smaller in pictures than they actually are. For example, the Long Peal Munny Necklace (Kidrobot Collection) looks tiny on its own, but on a model, it’s HUGE! Same with the Hello Kitty Mascot Drop Earrings. Don’t get me wrong. I love this!!! The bigger, the better! You know me! Just be warned.

Also, be aware that some of the Tarina jewelry is meant to be a surprise when you receive it. Meaning that while you (maybe) have the option to choose the color of your earrings, you’re not able to choose which charms will dangle from them (this is the case with the Things That Hurt earrings).

The Labbit Hoop Earrings, like the toys, are sold completely “blind,” a.k.a., you get no say in the matter at all. You get whatever color rabbits you get and that’s supposed to be “part of the fun!” I’m not too sure how I feel about this surprise factor when I’m dropping $120 on a pair of cigarette-smoking rabbit hoops. What do you think: Is the surprise fun or whack? VOTE NOW!

Color Your Mood

Reading the “color issue” of my beloved InStyle magazine really inspired me to branch out from my everyday blacks, browns, and greys, especially when it comes to makeup and nail polish. And WOOHOO!, the fashion pros even gave me permission to “go ahead and clash my nail polish” with my makeup and clothes. So that’s exactly what I’ve been doing! Yesterday was yellow eyeshadow and gold Keri Hilson earrings. Today, green shadow and lavender nail polish (with glitter, duh).

Color really does affect your mood, so if you’ve been feeling down in the dumps lately, I highly recommend some shimmery Diamond Powder makeup, a colorful Jeweled Cuff Bracelet, or some Oscar de la Renta Embellished Espadrille Wedges to cheer you up. Hot.

Also pictured, Lorella Satchel by Guess Handbags and Emilio Pucci Blue Napa Lame heels.

Here are some of my favorite color/mood associations:

Red: Passion
Orange: Creativity
Yellow: Joy
Green: Ambition
Blue: Tranquility
Purple: Wisdom

All About the NARS

My sister recently got her makeup done at NARS for fun. The end result was tads scary (an attempt at “Mod” eyes with lavender shadow and unblended black crease lines that was promptly removed once we arrived home). I sat and looked around at the other NARS products while the unfortunate makeup session was occurring. My sis ended up purchasing a lip crayon that the makeup artist didn’t even use on her, called NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Walkyrie. I tried it and fell in love.

I have thin lips and RARELY put color on them, other than the occasional red when I’m feeling bold, but this creamy, velvety pencil/crayon thingy changed all that business. It has just enough color to look like a stain, its soft enough to feel like a lipstick, and it lasted longer than other lipsticks I’ve tried. I liked it because it gave a natural, matte look without looking overdone. And it’s made in Italy. No wonder I like it. Good purchase.

See my NARS Cosmetics guide to see other makeup that I’d like to try from the company. Apparently, my sister’s fave NARS powder blush, Orgasm, is their best selling blush, because it looks great on all skin tones.

Note to sis: I’ll be “borrowing” that lip pencil this weekend. Give it.

Break out the Dresses!

Summer is right around the corner, which means it’s almost time to think about picking up a few new cute dresses. If I lived in a hot climate, I would live in in dresses ALL THE TIME. Usually, in SF, when I throw on a dress to go out for the day, I end up totally miserable and shivering by 2 in the afternoon. But this fact hasn’t stopped me from buying amazing dresses. I can’t help myself!

By far, my favorite online store for dress shopping is Mod Cloth.  Mostly vintage inspired, the dresses are all totally unique and affordable; the most expensive is less than $200. A lot of the dresses are by Max & Cleo, the formal line of BCBG, who make amazing dresses with interesting silhouettes.

Here’s my faves (from left to right): The Total Betty Dress, The Swiss Miss, The Marlene Dietrich, The Live Concert Dress and The 4th of July Dress. Check out more about these picks and more great dresses- Dresses!!!

Tees Me!

Most fashion-focused blogs provide readers with up-to-the-minute feedback on the newest, hottest designs of Marc, Issac, Jimmy, Zac, Oscar, and other admired masterminds. While I do attempt to keep myself clued-in to the newest fashion highlights and places to find hot designer garments online, I simply cannot afford to take my sweaty morning walk to work in a $500 Anna Sui silk print sundress.

That’s… not… hap-pening!

Sometimes a girl just wants to kick back and funk out with a bright, sassy, and flirty t-shirt and jeans fit. No, I’m not talking about an $80 Marc Jacobs cotton tee, I’m referring to the whole crop of cute, AFFORDABLE shirts from Wet Seal that I’m obsessed with today! Show off your sense of humor with these cutie tees selected by yours truly for my Tees Me! buyer’s guide on Kazowie!

My favorites: YOU FRONTIN’ tee and of COURSE, the Tupac: AMERICAZ MOST WANTED tee!

So good.

Landfill Fashion

If you want to be a smart fashion designer, you need to create something made from re-purposed materials. Because wearing recycled clothing is just as important as recycling! The last few years, we have seen some really interesting takes in recycled fashion and accessories: tires, plastic bottles, tennis shoes, cardboard, paper, cans, take-out containers, you name it. Because Earth Day is right around the corner, I decided to check out what designers and clothing companies have been up to in the realm of recycled fashion.

Urban Outfitters has been on the recycled goods bandwagon for the last 15 years with their UrbanRenewal Line. The designers that work in this department have my dream job- they get to go to second-hand and thrift stores and buy huge lots of random things like men’s shirts, ties, and old sweaters and take them back to the workshop and convert them something new and interesting.  Some examples are the simple but fabulous Recycled Vintage Lace Headband and the Plaid Recycled Men’s Shirt Skirt. I want that job.

Not UrbanRenewal, but equally as fab- the Recycled Skateboard Necklace is handmade from retired skateboards. The Recycled Record Cuff makes a great gift for the music connoisseur- yesterday’s Top 40 hits = today’s wearable gems!

There are also a plethora of bags out there made from recycled materials. The Recycled Tires Bag, The Barcode Bag (made from candy wrappers) and the Reclaimed Water Bottle Bag are a few examples. Check out the rest of my Earth Day Fashion Finds and be sure to bring your re-usable totes to the market!

Kool Kitchen Things

I spend lots of time in the kitchen, mixing up new concoctions that my dinner guests are usually hesitant to taste. But that doesn’t discourage me from cooking! If you spend lots of time in this room of your house too, it’s only natural to want functional utensils that are also cool-looking and unique, especially if you’re cooking with friends, family, or your significant other. I find that cool kitchen stuff always makes a great gift, too.

A pair of rubber frog oven mitts goes great with some onion goggles and only serves to make your cooking experience more fun and enjoyable. Some other Things That Belong in a Kitchen are included on my Kazowie buyer’s guide, such as The Cannabis Cookbook and a magnet bottle opener.
